How It Works

As a member of Debt Search you will be sharing information on a nationwide network with other businesses.  By entering the details of customers and monies owed to you on the website, you will in return be able the search when checking customers for credit to see if they are in already listed as a bad debtor with other organisations.  Now you make an informed decision to offer credit.  Remember a customer that doesn't pay is not worth having.  No more lengthy phone calls to check credit with other companies, merely do a free search with Debt Search 24 hours a day, 7 days week.

As a member of Debt Search you will be responsible for any information published to this website.  Therefore, members will need to include your intention to publish details of bad debtors as part of your standard debtor account applications. 

Use it as a recovery tool

All new customers asking for credit should always been signed up on a credit application form whereby you obtain all their personal details.  This would usually include permission to do a credit check.  Merely add the permission for a check on Debt Search to your standard form and also point out that if they fail to meet their obligations they will be included in the database as a bad risk.  Any customers that you have as non paying after 30 days, merely send them a letter stating they must contact you or pay their account within a set period of time or their details will be listed on Debt Search.  If they do not make any contact within the set time then you will take that to mean they have given their permission to have their details entered.  This may be all the encouragement they need to start making an arrangement to meet their responsibilities.

How is it Administered?

There is an ability to administer debt search from it's principal office.  Only the site administrators will be able to delete and/or add to information supplied by all the members.  As a member, you can only enter, update, and delete your own information but you can view all debtors registered within the site.  It is necessary for the site administrators to access all information in order to keep it current.  As a member, you will be required to sign a disclaimer ensuring that you are totally responsible for the facts you publish.

It should be a simple matter of gathering and entering information at the same time you do your monthly statements.  You will, as a member, be supplied with a user name and password to access this site.  These are given strictly in confidence to you and should only be used by you to enter information or search the site.

What your membership covers

The annual membership is $100 and all debt searches are free.  You may do as many searches as you wish.  Your membership fee covers administration costs applicable to the website.  Debt search is set up to cover it's costs and help all of us in small businesses get a fair deal from our work.
